Another Freelance Writing Scam

by Amanda on August 19, 2008

Well it’s Tuesday morning and first off I have discovered another freelance writing scam.  Below is an excerpt from the sales page which I think you should probably read first before I explain why I think this is a scam.

“As soon as you log-in to our exclusive, members-only area, you will get to choose from 1,000′s of article / writing job offers, neatly organized by the type of writing each company desires…
That’s 1000′s of companies ready and willing…right now…to pay you amazing well for the specific content writing tasks that they urgently need done for them.
And with dozens of new writing jobs being added each day, you will never run out of great, high-paying content jobs to sign up for, which means there’s…
No looking for jobs.      Never a shortage of jobs.
It’s a never-ending supply of high-paying, simple and easy writing jobs to YOU…

As you can see, this website seems to be offering a jobs database so you don’t have to spend a large amount of time each day searching for freelance writing jobs. This is what caught my attention and there was no mention of bidding for jobs either which is an additional bonus.

So how much for all this?

How does $9.90 sound? This is a once off payment. Well as you can probably guess I signed up as a new member and immediately logged into my members area. That is where my excitement ended. I found myself looking at a number of different screens and all I got for my $9.90 was information on how to become a freelance writer, how to set up a blog, how to write advertisements, and a number of articles relating to each of these topics. Yes I am disgusted. How can people justify doing this. The sales page clearly states that when you log into the members area you can choose from 1,000′s of jobs. What a lie. In the new features section of the members area what you really get is about 10 links to a number of different websites including Craigslist where you can find freelance writing jobs.

What you really get for your money is three e-books on how to write for various genres. I did take a brief look at the freelance writing one but it is just a rehash of all the information that is available online, including the information that you will find in my e-book on ghostwriting.

Yes I am still so annoyed with myself for falling for this freelance writing scam but at least I can warn everyone else. So the name of this website: howtofreelance.com. I am purposely not putting in a hyperlink here as I don’t want to give this website any backlinks.

If anyone else has fallen prey to this freelance writing scam or any other, please feel free to share your experience.

I am a writer, who had worked for Exclusive Writer.com, but I was never paid for the articles I wrote. Please beware and do not work for http://www.exclusivewriter.com/

The Exclusive Writer is a scam company that will make you write papers, but will not pay you for them. Please do not apply there at all. Warn others too kindly.
