Happy 2009 to everyone. It’s seems like a life time ago that I last posted, ok well it was only the 22nd of December but it seems a really long time. Why have I been away? Well I did what I promised myself I would do and that is take a complete break over the Christmas period. I have to admit, that I actually surprised myself because I didn’t think that I could do it. It was tough for the first couple of days but then I really did relax and enjoy my Christmas and new year with my family. I even caught up on some great TV programs.
Did work enter my mind?
Of course it did, I’m a writer so I am always thinking about writing….what my next post will be about, what my next ebook should be…yes writing is a constant thing and because of this I have been able to compile a list of great things that I will be achieving in 2009.
I have a list of new posts, 3 new ebooks in the pipelines, and of course I plan on getting some more high paying clients. I also want to work a little less too.
If having a break this Christmas has thought me anything, it’s that time off is definitely needed. Like most freelancers, I probably work way too much. I don’t have regular hours and I do have the advantage of working from home but that is probably where it stops when you compare it to a regular 9 to 5 job. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change my situation for anything but I have come to realise that there are times that I need to treat my profession as a job and this Christmas and new year was one of them.
I sat myself down and told myself that if I were working a 9 to 5 job I would have two weeks off work. I wouldn’t decided to go into the office for an hour to check on things. I wouldn’t ring up clients or my boss to see how things were. I would just take my holidays and not even think about work again until I needed to. So that is what I told myself that I needed to do and it worked.
I had a great Christmas and I was so relaxed. I had informed all of my clients that I would be away until the 5th of January and that way I knew there would be nothing outstanding. I also set up my email autoresponder to say the same. I was covered on all angles and because of this I got the time to relax and enjoy Christmas as it should be.
Now I’m back to work, fully refreshed and revitalised and ready for what 2009 has on store for me. Are you ready to take on the world in 2009? Did you make a list of goals that you want to achieve? Do you even think that setting goals is valuable? I’m not too sure. Goals are great but if you don’t achieve them you can be left feeling a bit like a failure. This year I am setting monthly goals and yearly goals and I will tell you more about them another time.
Until next time,
Keep writing.
