Sage,

Sorry to hear about your disappointment with this freelance writing website. I have read other reviews of a similar nature for this website too and it is probably best to steer clear of websites like this. If I had to give my personal opinion on what I think is the best bidding website I would have to say Elance. I have had an account with this freelance writing jobs website since 2004 and it is responsible for starting my freelance writing career. Even though I don't use it that often now I do still keep my profile open. You can have a free profile on Elance and this gives you 10 connects every month that you can use to bid on jobs. Have you signed up with Elance? If not I recommend that you try this website.

I tried iFreelance and was very disappointed. I signed up for the $69.95 membership in each of two related writing and graphics fields. I bid on dozens of jobs and would have submitted more, had there been more. I never got a single response from an employer and thought this rather strange since my inquiry rate on two other sites you mention was approaching 30%. I emailed their customer service four times and never had a response. I didn't feel this was worth the money and the only way to prevent auto-billing is to discontinue your profiles, i.e. quit bidding on projects. Wish I could report a better success rate!

oDesk is pretty user-friendly. Buyers post hourly or fixed-rate jobs. If hourly, they guarantee payment even if the client doesn't pay. They pay through PayPal and other similar options. They don't do checks except for large companies/providers. You can sign up for daily job alerts or browse their listings.

To work with oDesk & have your payment guaranteed, you have to work within their system, which includes downloading their oDesk team software. You also have to at least pass the oDesk readiness test before applying for any jobs.

It's free to providers (freelancers). Only buyers pay oDesk. I've done a couple successful assignments with them. Also, their tech support is johnny-on-the-spot and very helpful.

Best,
~Jen
