To Bid Or Not To Bid On Freelance Writing Jobs

by Amanda on October 8, 2008

We all know the phrase “to be or not to be, that is the question” and so today I want to suggest a new phrase “to bid or not to bid, on freelance writing jobs”.

In a recent discussion on the powerful intentions forum someone suggested that bidding on jobs was a waste of time.  This person has posted saying that she was interested in earning money writing but didn’t get the whole bidding thing and thought it was a waste of time.  A few of us that replied suggested websites such as Elance and Guru as we use them and find them a very good way of attracting new clients to our business.  Another person suggested that this person look for magazine work but this was again dismissed with a comment such as I don’t want to have to write query letters all the time.  It got me to wondering what it was that this person really wanted.  She said she wanted to earn money from her writing but no matter what the suggestion was, it wasn’t something that she wanted to do.

Anyway I’m getting a little off topic here, what I was really wondering, was, how many of us freelance writers actually do bid on jobs as a means of making a living from out writing.  In short what is you answer to the question “to bid or not to bid, on freelance writing jobs”.
