Let’s face it, if you work at home then job hunting is probably part of your daily chores. I try to avoid the bidding websites as much as possible and have therefore come to rely on a number of different websites to get my leads.

On thing that I do use is Twitter. I use tweetdeck and the search facility it provides. I just typed in freelance writing jobs and I get a list of 100 leads that are updated constantly. Many of the leads are form GAF or other bidding sites but I have come across some great prospects too. If you are already on Twitter then I recommend trying this. It can save a lot of time and hunting.

Another excellent resource that I want to give you is a post from August last year on the Freelance Writing Jobs Network. This is a list of 22 places to find freelance writing jobs and is a great reference point for anyone looking for some additional work.

I should also remind you that job hunting is something that you should be aiming to eliminate from your daily schedule and indeed you should be aiming to have clients come to you. In order to do this however you need to start marketing and getting your name out there. I will discuss this further at a later date but for today I just wanted to give you some additional resources to help you find more freelance writing jobs.

Until next time,

Keep Writing

A couple of weeks ago I came across a job listing on Get A freelancer where someone had posted looking for someone to write their Twitter posts. I have to admit I didn’t really take any notice of it and just passed by it. I was looking for something specific. A couple of nights ago however when I mentioned my new blog for business owners on Twitter someone asked me “Would I write Twitter posts?” This threw me and it made me think again about the job I saw on Get A freelancer.

Writing someone elses Twitter posts just doesn’t seem ethical to me regardless of whether or not I was getting paid. I have my morals and beliefs and writing someone elses Twitter posts to me would be like writing someone’s essay or term paper. I’m just not going to do it.

I love Twitter and especially the fact that I am networking with other people, enjoying conversations, and making some great new friends, don’t you? How would you feel if you found out that the person you were connecting with was actually someone who was being paid to Tweet and not in fact the person you thought it was? The laughter, the jokes, the business ideas, what if they were all fake? I know that my opinion of the person I thought I was connecting with would be shattered. I certainly wouldn’t want to buy any of their products, let alone chat with them again. You see, for me Twitter is personal, it’s about being yourself and connecting with others. It’s about gettting your name out there, promoting your business too, but most of all meeting and connecting with people. I really hate the thought of people out there trying to control Twitter, trying to take away the personal aspect, and just simply mistreating this great concept. Would you be willing to have someone write your tweets? Would you be wiling to let someone else speak for you? I know I wouldn’t.

How can you tweet for someone? How can you take on their personality? How can you have conversations with people? It’s just wrong in my eyes, and yes they are just my eyes, you may not agree with me at all. You may see this as another paid opportunity, and that is your choice.

I know there are people out there who will agree with me on this one, so let me ask you this final question: “Would you be willing to let someone else be you?”

Until next time,

Keep writing.

Today I have something special to share with you. I am constantly getting emails from people who like me are fed up with the state of bidding websites. I’m sure you are familiar with the scenario that seems to be invading the bididng websites – 500 words articles for $1. It’s totally ridiculous and I personally feel like setting up a campaign against this. I mean come on, even beginners should get no less than $2 per 100 words, that’s $10 for a 500 word article. I reckon that if all us ghostwriters and freelancer writers including those just starting out joined together and refused to accept anything less than $2 per 100 words, then these buyers would soon realise that you have to pay to have content written. That’s just my opinion but what do you think?

On to what I was saying before I rambled off topic. I am constantly getting emails from people wondering how to find high paying and even average paying ghostwriting jobs. I respond to each email I get but thought I should share the information with my readers too.

[ad#post-ads]So today I spent some time creating a <a title="Ghostwriting Jobs report" href="http://www.ghostwritinguncovered.com/ghostwritingjobs.pdf" target="_blank">free report for you. This report is only 7 pages long but in it I have put one of the simple methods I use for finding more ghostwriting and freelance writing jobs. I have also included screenshots to show exactly what I am talking about.

This report is my gift to you and a way to help you find more work. I value your readership and if I can help you in anyway you only have to ask. There is an abundance of work for ghostwriters and freelance writers a like and if sharing some of my methods for finding paid writing work with you helps then I am happy to do so.

So please go ahead and download your free gift. If you find it useful pass it on to a friend, stumble or digg this post, or even tell your friends on facebook or twitter. The more we can let others know that there is an alternative to those ridiculous $1 500 word articles the better. I want to see the bidding websites return to what they were back in 2004. When bidding on a job meant getting what you were worth. I never got less than $2 per 100 words even when I was just starting out.

It’s time to take a stand, let all us writers unite, and let people know that our services are worth a lot more than $1.

Until next time,

Keep writing.

P.S. Apologies for my little rant, I just get so frustrated when I hear of people being taken for granted.

It’s Saturday and the first of my weekly reviews. I receive a large amount of emails every week from people who are curious about what it is a ghostwriter does. To help satisfy those of you who are curious I have decided to start posting a weekly review that details all the work I have completed each week.

Sunday 18th January:
I know it was Sunday but deadlines are deadlines and so I had to work for an hour today. I had three 500 word articles to complete for a website that I write for. I hate working on Sunday’s because for me Sunday is a family day and normally involves cooking a large roast and sitting around the table reviewing our week. Thankfully my soon to be husband Joe prepared the dinner and entertained our two children while I finished my articles.

Monday 19th January:
My daughter Emma who’s 5 was back in school today. I still had Conor my 2 year old at home so getting work done during the day can be tough. I did however manage to get on blog post completed this morning. Monday night when my children were tucked up in bed provided me with the opportunity to get the outline for my new e-book completed and choose my latest writing assignment from the website I write for. As a ghostwriter, I can’t post the website details here so I’m sorry about that.

Tuesday 20th January:
Emma has school today and Conor has pre-school from 9 to 1pm. During this time I completed three 500 word articles on the subject of Getting Your Ex Boyfriend Back. Quite entertaining and fun to write which makes a change from financial or marketing topics. I also posted on my blog and did some rating on Helium. I also logged into my Elance account to see if there was anything worth bidding on there. Placed a couple of bids before catching up on Twitter and writing blogs. I also added a new page to this blog titled Beginners Articles so be sure to check that out.

Wednesday 21st January:
Conor and Emma were at home with me this morning so not much work done. Emma received her vaccinations in school yesterday and had a slight reaction to them so I had to keep her at home today. Throughout the day I managed to get three 500 word articles on removing moles completed. I also started work on the free guide I am writing about using Helium as an additional stream of income. I also had some re-writes to complete for a client today and I was accepted to write for another website called Content Current. I’m not sure what this website will be like but I will keep you updated.

Thursday 22nd January:
Thursday is the day that my mother comes to visit and spend the day so work is usually put on hold until Thursday night. My mother is an excellent writer and poet but unfortunately she has no confidence in herself. I have been telling her for ages that she should start writing online and today I began coaching her on how to use Helium. I thought that this would be a great way to get her started writing articles and she can also start earning a little money too. Here’s the first article she wrote on Tree That Can Also Be Shrubs. Now I should point out, that my mother is totally new to using a computer and has no idea how to use MS Word, how to copy and paste, or anything else. She hand wrote the article and then typed it into Helium. The article itself is very good but she didn’t know about the previewing the layout of the article before publishing so the format is a little off. For her first attempt though I am really proud.

Friday 23rd January:
Both of my children were in school this morning so I had a couple of hours to work. This morning I revised the sales page for my ghostwriting manual and added a coaching session as a bonus. I have also decided to employ a marketing expert to promote my manual too. As a writer, producing the content is easy for me, but when it comes to marketing I really do lack the experience needed.

Last week I completed an editing project through Elance and am happy to report that I have now added this client to my books. I recieved another project from her today and there is plenty more to come. This is one of the main reasons that I have kept my account with Elance.

Received an email from the owner of the website I write for today. They have a new project that need to be completed before Monday. I accepted and so once again I will be doing a couple of hours work over the weekend. I don’t mind too much and I know that at the end of the month when I see my bank balance it will have been worth it.

So there you have it, that was my week, how was yours, would you like to share?

Until next time,

Keep writing.

Welcome to another Friday of love here at The Hidden Writer. It’s been another crazy busy week for me, i just don’t know what’s happening. Clients are literally crawling out of the wood work and new clients are continuing to pour in. I am putting it down to the new website design and of course the fact that my rates are now clearly visible. (I will discuss my decision on this in another post).

In between writing, editing, and researching this week, I have still managed to pull up some excellent posts to list for you here today. First though, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who comments on these blog posts. They are written for you and when you comment it let me know that you appreciate what I am dong here. Without further ado, here’s today’s list of posts.

<a title="freelance job sites" href="http://freelanceswitch.com/finding/the-monster-list-of-freelancing-job-sites/" target="_blank">The Monster List Of Freelancing Job Sites by freelance Switch is the first post I want to link to. This is an amazing list of resources for anyone looking for freelance work. I suggest you bookmark this one because you will want to refer to it again and again.

12 Tips To Promote Your Work With Social Media. This post is from Daily Blog Tips and details how you can promote your work using such sites as StumbleUpon. The post tells you what to do and what not to do and is again another excellent read for any write looking to promote their work.

25 Good Follows For Freelancers. Twitter is everywhere and I just had to include this post from Twitter tips which list 25 people that all freelancers should follow. If you use Twitter then check this list out and see are you following the right people.

How To Write 50 Articles A Day. This post is from Freelance Writing jobs and is written by James Chartrand of Men With Pens. I have to admit I love the style of writing James uses and his post is one that will have you near laughing. I’m not going to spoil it for you by revealing what the article is about so I suggest you head over there and check it out for yourself.

The Revision Process by Impish Idea is an older post dated in December but one that merits a mention. It’s a long post providing some excellent details and guidelines on how to revise your work.

Do You Write For Cheap? Read This is a post from The Renegade Writer which discusses the ongoing debate about writing cheap articles. This post is quite detailed and well worth the read.

That’s it for this week but some great reading in the posts mentioned above. Be sure to leave your comments if you have any.

Until next time,

Keep Writing.

It’s Friday again and time to list some of the great posts that I read over the past week. There is some really great information on the internet and sometimes finding it can be difficult. I tend to find a lot of these posts through Twitter and by using Stumble. I hope you enjoy reading these posts and remember if you would like to have a link to something interested that you have written why not contact me.

The first post for today is from The freelance Writing Business Blog and is titled <a href="http://writinghightech.typepad.com/freelance_business/2008/11/self-discipline-and-freelance-writing.html" target="_blank">Self Discipline And Freelance Writing. This is a very interesting read and provides some great tips on how to make yourself more productive.

Next is a post from Get Paid To Write Online titled What To Do When You Have Said It All. This post discusses what to do when you run out of things to say when working on a project.

Next is a post from The Jen Hamilton Blog which is a new blog I have discovered. The post is titled Freelance Writing: Defining the Process for a new Client Steps 4 and 5. You can also read the 3 other steps on her blog too. This is a great blog, can’t believe I haven’t seen it before. This post which is part 4 and 5 of a series of posts is all about explaining the project process to your client so that they fully understand exactly what you are doing.

Next is another new blog discover for me and the post is titled Branding Tips For Freelance Writers and the blog is called Freedom Freelance. This article is all about branding yourself and your name as a freelance writer.

Web Worker Daily has a great post about Maintaining Your Flexibility As A Freelancer.

My last post for today is from John Chow Dot Com titled How To Bring Interactivity to Your Blog. This blog is not a freelance writing blog but the post relates to any blog for any purpose or niche. A very interesting read that can provide a lot of excellent tips.

That’s it for this Friday but be sure to get your posts listed in the comments section if you want them to appear in next Friday’s listing.

Do you have a favourite blog that you visit when you need information?

How to use twitter to market your ghostwriting career, using twitter for ghostwriting, twitter and freelance writing.

If you haven’t heard about Twitter you probably have your head burried in the sand. Twitter a great new way to socialise and network with others. I signed up with Twitter about two weeks ago and I have to say like everyone else, I love it. I have met some amazing freelance writers and my website and blog stats are increasing daily.

Twitter is a great way to promote yourself and your product. You can ask questions, answer questions, and generally just stay in the loop. Below are a couple of posts relating to Twitter and how well it is working for other.

Networking With Some Big Names Through Twitter

9 Benefits Of Twitter – ProBlogger (This is an old post, dated in January 2008 but some extremly useful information). Also courtesy of ProBlogger is 5 Things to Do as a New Twitter User. If you search for Twitter on this blog you will also find more really useful content.

Even the Indiana University has a post relating to Twitter called Students Learn The Benefits Of Twitter From Zappos CEO and Professor.

Take a look at the Twitter Blog and you will see that even celebrities are starting to Twitter. I’m even following Britney Spears. It seems Twitter really is the new things and for freelance writers it’s great. Every time you write a new article, blog post, find a new job, etc, you can tweet about it. Anyone that is following you will receive this update and they can click on the link you place in your tweet. It is worth mentioning that you only get 140 characters per tweet so make them work in your favour.

To help you out if you’re not using Twitter here’s a great YouTube Video that explains it all.

Twitter is definitely something that you should be adding to your marketing campaign. The only way to find out if it will work for you is to start using it. Dont’ forget to Follow Me on Twitter.

Until next time,

Keep writing, and Twittering
